From Tacky to Trendy

If there was one fad this holiday season, it had to be tacky Christmas sweaters. Not only were tacky sweater parties, but there were sweaters all over the media and many tacky clad-celebrities. Now, I love a tacky Christmas sweater, but why wear it only once a year? I found this lovely number while thrifting one afternoon last year. Even though the Santa’s and snowflakes are M.I.A., I feel it’s a nice mix of part tacky holiday season and part winter lodge chic. To bring out the Ralph Lauren side to this outfit, I paired it with my ever-classic Coach riding boots that I found (way on sale!) at DSW. Like any great investment in boots, it was love at first stride. I love wearing this outfit because it’s extremely comfortable and it’s a way to show one of my thrifted treasures. Here’s my interpretation of a tacky Christmas sweater gone casual everyday ensemble. And in keeping with the outdoor mood this was shot in my front yard. It may not be the most mountainous, but let’s just pretend.

Peter Pan in Pearls

Hello! I’ve been MIA since school started…so. much. work. But I have found time to do some vintage shopping. I bought this faded pearl collar over the weekend. I knew it was meant to be; it was 25% off! It ended up being $15. It’s kinda discolored, but I think that’s what gives it a cool antique-y vibe.  I was ecstatic. It was one of those purchases your really hesitant to commit to, but once you do you’re super excited. Plus, I love this Peter Pan-ish collar trend that’s emerging. Neck’s are very graceful and showing them off can look very sleek. I can’t wait to display my vintage find!

Perfectly Polished

I am falling in love with this revival of the classy, lady-like look. The loafers, collared shirts, everything screams chic and can be anyone’s go-to for a classic look. I got these shoes at Topshop in London, and, despite the price, they were the last pair so I had to seize the opportunity.

I can’t wait to wear them with the black, sheer silk blouse. And can you believe that it’s a brand new Etro top? (Yep, that’s the tag) $66! I got it from a high end consignment store where I live (Richmond, VA). I pretty much flipped out when I tried it on. It’s so incredibly soft and flowy and romantic. This is only the beginning of a closet of smart designer finds.

The dress is from River Island in London (I did some good shopping). I love how it has a collar, yet the gathers at the bottoms and asymmetrical hem give it a cool edge. Ah, I am anticipating fall way too much over here in the 95 degree heat. Can’t wait to look perfectly polished!

Living in and Loving Leather

Leather has recently become my new obsession. I have to admit it had a bad spell there around the new millennium, but now designers have managed to turn it into a cool way to make a statement. I’m all about statement-making and wearing leather in different ways is the way to do it. If it’s too out there for you, try some piping or pocket details that add an extra edge to your outfit. Here are some of my favorites ways to wear leather.

Thrifted Finds

Hello friends! So today I was volunteering at a store called The Clothes Rack. They’re basically like a Goodwill or Salvation Army. While I was there I spotted these two accessories which will make a lovely addition to my fall wardrobe. I’m obsessed with the cranberry dark reddish color of the bag. And the belt is neon green, which kinda intimidates me… But I’m determined to wear it! Neon is so bold and I love making a statement. Tell me what you think!
